Most moles are harmless, but some are removed for cosmetic reasons (a prominent mole on the face, neck or hands), because they catch on clothing or jewellery, or because their appearance has changed in size, colour or shape — a possible warning sign that needs evaluation.

At Orange Skin Clinic, Tirunelveli, every mole is first examined with dermoscopy — a polarised magnification that helps distinguish benign moles from suspicious lesions. Anything atypical is sent for histopathology before or after removal. We never burn or shave a mole that has not been properly assessed.

For benign moles we offer two precise techniques: radiofrequency ablation (the most common — fast, minimal scar, ideal for raised moles) and surgical excision with sutures (for flat or large moles, or when the entire specimen is needed for biopsy). Both are performed under local anaesthesia in a 15–30 minute outpatient visit.

Healing takes 5–10 days. We provide an antibiotic ointment and tape, and you avoid water on the area for 48 hours. Sun protection over the healing area for 6 months minimises post-procedure pigmentation. Final scars are usually a small flat mark that fades over months.
